East Entertaining Area
This area is self explanatory. Funnily enough it's the garden that's closest to the house yet it's often the most neglected. We have a lovely half round seat that my sister Maree and Swannee my brother-in-law gave to us (one of two) before we even moved here. It wraps around a mop top robinia. Paul made the central picnic table and long half round seat which I finally got round to mosaicing a couple of years ago. Paul boxed out and concreted all the pavers and built the pergola. I was just the labourer. More recently Paul made a rustic sculpture from old chain blocks and garden sleepers which I think looks really cool.
The English box parterre hedging on each side of this garden has taken forever to grow but I must admit I have neglected it somewhat, forgetting to water it often through the summer months. There are many kitchen herbs here which makes sense being close to the kitchen and B.B.Q. areas. Thyme, rosemary, parsley and oregano are some of them.
The vase clipped bay trees, again handy for the kitchen, have a story of their own. One was a bonsai that my Mum gave up on and offered to me in a moment of frustration. I seldom say no to a gift. On this occasion when I took over this one I released it from it's pot prison and planted in the garden. Then I decided there needed to be another bay on the other side of the sitting area to make it more balanced. Once the bay trees started growing, which took a while, I started hedge trimming them in no particular way. It wasn't till we had a trip to Thailand that I decided to clip them in large vase shapes. When the original bay trees started looking good I planted another two and am still waiting for them to catch up.
There are too many other plantings to mention in this area to mention them all and they are always changing . I hope you enjoy the pictures and get inspired as that's what gardening is all about.
